Assalamu Alaikum Warahmathullaahi Wa Barakaathuhu

Due to the emergence of the second wave of Coronavirus and its rapid spread in our country, the number of persons permitted to gather at a time in a Masjid has been restricted to 25, as per the guidelines of the health officials. In a previous statement released by the All Ceylon Jammiyyathul Ulama, on 16.06.2020, titled “Guidance on conducting Jumuah during the abnormal situation of COVID-19”, the second clause states as the follows:

“According to the Shafie School of Thought (Mad’hab), a minimum of 40 matured males, who are permanent residents, is required for the validity of Jumuah Prayer. Hence, if due to space constraints, or permission not being granted by the officers, or for any other reason, the number of attendees is less than 40, then Luhar Salah has to be conducted.”

The Muslims and Aalims of this country have duly worked towards preserving the identity of Jumuah for many years. Alhamdulillah, the All Ceylon Jammiyyathul Ulama also advocates the same.

We pray that this abnormal situation doesn't persist and abates very quickly, and we experience better times, where we are able to conduct Jumuah prayers in the usual manner, with the benevolence of Almighty Allah; and we pray that Allah Ta'ala rewards you in full for your worries and concerns.
