We, All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama welcome the news report on the death of the ruthless terrorist, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was killed in a US military raid in Syria, which was supported by other countries. ISIS has carried out many atrocities against humanity and we feel that the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, ringleader of this terror organization is a big step forward in eliminating ISIS menace completely from this world. We believe that Allah has answered the prayers and the cries of the victims affected by the ISIS terror attacks in Sri Lanka and elsewhere in the world, and that he will get the deserved punishments in the life here-after.
As per the Joint Declaration issued by ACJU and Muslim Organizations of Sri Lanka in 23rd July 2015, against ISIS and Extremism, we reiterate that ISIS is a violent terrorist organization which acts against the fundamental teachings of Islam. It is an absolutely deviant organization which operates against all the principles and tenets of Islam. ISIS terrorist organization that kills innocent people under the name of Islam is totally unacceptable. There is no place in Islam for extremism, terrorism, murder, violence against innocent people, which are regarded as grave sins.
We once again emphasize to our fellow Sri Lankans that ISIS or any other extremist ideology has nothing to do with Islam. Moving forward, we all should unite and make it our common goal to work tirelessly to eradicate all forms of terrorism, extremism and violence and make efforts to build peace and harmony across the globe.

Joint declaration by the Muslim Organizations of Sri Lanka on the issue of IS (ISIS) and Extremism:
We, the representatives of the main Muslim Organizations in Sri Lanka, present at the anti-extremism conference organized by the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU), held on the 22nd July 2015, condemn in unequivocal terms all forms of violence and extremism.
Islam is a religion of Mercy for all humanity. It is the fountainhead of Eternal Peace, Tranquility, Security and Brotherhood. Islam attaches such value to human life that it equates the killing of a single being unlawfully with the killing of the entire human race, without differentiation based on creed or caste. Its teachings of peace and brotherhood encompass all humanity. Islam teaches us to treat all mankind with equality, mercy, tolerance and justice. Islam sternly condemns all kinds of oppression, violence and extremism. It regards oppression, mischief, rioting and murders amongst the severest sins and crimes.
The IS (ISIS) is a violent extremist organization which acts against the fundamental teachings of Islam. It is an absolutely deviant organization which operates against all the principles and tenets of Islam. Unfortunately, the word ‘Jihad’ has been misinterpreted by the Western media to mean killing or waging unjust wars. Any organization that kills innocent people under the guise of Jihad, it is totally outside the pale of Islam. We endorse the booklet published by the ACJU which explains the correct spiritual concept of Jihad based on authentic Islamic religious texts.
We appreciate the initiatives taken by the ACJU to expose the ISIS as an un-Islamic and extremist organization, in an informative broadcast through the SLBC on the 6thof July 2014 and the statement issued to the media on the 30thof August 2014. Subsequently several International Islamic Institutions and countries have condemned the ISIS as an extremist organization engaged in acts contrary to Islamic teachings.
We strongly and unequivocally condemn any person associated with the ISIS or any other extremist organization operating under the guise of Islam. We do not condone any person or organization that engages in extremism in any form.
We strongly call upon the government to take action against any individual involved in any form of extremism. We also wholeheartedly offer our fullest support and co-operation to all government agencies to identify such anti-social and criminal elements in order to eliminate this menace from our Motherland.
We call upon the media to act with responsibility and objectivity. We also urge them not to sensationalize such issues as not to endanger peaceful co-existence prevailing amongst the communities in Sri Lanka.
We Muslims have, over the centuries, demonstrated our patriotism and loyalty to Sri Lanka. We affirm that we will not act in any manner that it detrimental to our Motherland.

21.07.2015 - Media Statement
ISIS terrorist organization and the Lankan Muslims
News of the death of an alleged Lankan Muslim who has reportedly left the country to join the ISIS has been published in various local dailies.
Hence, the Sri Lankan Muslim community has become deeply worried over this news item. Lankan Muslims like many other peace loving Muslim nations world over never approve the activities of the ISIS which is tarnishing the name of Islam by hideously misinterpreting the concept of “Jihad”.
Realizing the apex role of the ACJU that provide guidance to the Muslims of this country, Ash Sheikh Rizwe Mufti, the President of our organization made a special address to the Lankan Muslims over the SLBC on 06.07.2014 with regard to the ISIS issue and cautioned them to fully distance them from this terror outfit and its activities. The President further asserted that the group is a totally illegal terrorist movement that is operating out of the folds of Islam and its teachings.
Thus, ACJU became one of the first Muslim organizations in the world to denounce the actions of the ISIS as ‘grossly un-Islamic.’
Subsequent to the above verbal denouncement, ACJU publish an another Media Statement to the same effect to all major print media institutions with signatures of the President and the General Secretary on 30.08.2014.
Further on 03.02.2015 ACJU issued another Media Statement condemning the killing of two Japanese journalists.
In Addition to this, ACJU once again denounced the actions of the ISIS on 03.02.2015, by issuing another media statement, which has been also posted in our website. This denouncement could be accessed by clicking this link:
We also would like to state that our organization is making arrangement to issue a detailed statement denouncing the barbaric actions of the ISIS very soon.
