ACJU/NGS/2023/262

2023.10.30 (1445.04.14)

A resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Palestinian Gaza region, which was initiated by Jordan, was adopted on 26.10.2023 at the Emergency Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The resolution professed that the war on Gaza must be stopped immediately on humanitarian grounds, and the people of Gaza must be guaranteed access to basic essentials such as: water, food, medical supplies, fuel and electricity.

It is significant to note that 120 countries have voted in favor of this Resolution, 14 countries have voted against it, and 45 countries have abstained from voting

Accordingly on behalf of the people of Sri Lanka, the ACJU commends the Sri Lankan Government for voting in favor of this ceasefire resolution which calls for the ‘protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligation’. It is praiseworthy to have taken such a strong stand based on humanity, justice and fairness despite the current economic crisis.

We pray to Almighty for the establishment of justice, morality and peace around the world.
