The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama strongly condemns the statements made by the National Security Minister of Israel, Itamar Ben-Gvir, regarding the establishment of a synagogue within the Masjid Al-Aqsa.
Masjid Al-Aqsa bears a great significance in hearts of every Muslim. It is the third most sacred site in Islam and was the first Qibla (prayer direction) of the Muslims. Almighty Allah refers to the Masjid Al-Aqsa in the Holy Quran as follows:
“Glorious is He Who made his servant travel by night from Al-Masjid-ul-Harām to AlMasjid-ul-Aqsā whose environs We have blessed, so that We let him see some of Our signs. Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All- Seeing” (Surah 17 Verse 01)
It is of great concern that such inflammatory statements which fuels extremism and provokes the feelings of Muslims around the world, are being freely propagated.
We reiterate our call towards the International community to fulfill its responsibilities in putting an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in Palestine and to stand against these atrocities.
The Sri Lankan government and the Muslim community have continuously supported the Palestinian cause. It is worthy of mention that the Sri Lankan government too had voted in favor of the resolution passed by the UN General Assembly on 26.10.2023, calling for an immediate and lasting humanitarian ceasefire. The President of All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama – Mufti M.I.M Rizwe during his visit to Geneva, handed over an official letter to the UN on behalf of ACJU appreciating this resolution.
We pray for the protection of Masjid Al-Aqsa and for the establishment of justice, freedom and peace in the region.
May Almighty Allah remove the sufferings of the innocent victims of Palestine, compensate their losses with abundant goodness and bless those affected with tranquility and restore normalcy.
