ACJU urges the Government to fulfill the democratic aspirations of the people and those engaged in protests to abide by the laws of the land and to avoid violence

Ref: ACJU/NGS/2022/084
06th April 2022 (1443.09.04)

Currently, the people of our country, irrespective of race or religion, have unitedly taken to the streets and are fighting democratically, as a result of various hardships and difficulties in fulfilling their daily needs.

People have the right to express their opinions and needs in a democratic manner. However, it should be ensured that protests remain peaceful by avoiding all forms of violence, harm to the lives of the people or properties and causing disruption to the public. And we kindly request the protesters to uphold the laws of the land and act accordingly.

At a time when people are facing many problems such as fuel shortages, increasing prices of essential goods and power cuts, we urge the Government to provide solutions to the prevailing crisis and to listen to the voice of the people and respect their emotions by fulfilling their democratic aspirations.

During this Holy Month of Ramadaan, the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama prays to Almighty Allah to grant relief to the people of our Nation from all forms of calamities and to bless our Motherland with lasting peace and prosperity.

Ash Shaikh M.S.M. Thassim
(Acting) General Secretary
All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama
