(Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un… “Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return”)

Dr. Ismail Haniyeh (May Allah have mercy on him), born in 1963 in Gaza, was the leader of the political wing of the Palestinian freedom movement. A distinguished diplomat, Dr. Ismail Haniyeh held significant positions within the movement, playing a crucial role as the leader of its political wing.

From 2006 to 2007, he served as the democratically elected Prime Minister of Palestine, and later continued to serve as the Prime Minister of the deposed government in Gaza until 2014. He dedicated his life to his nation and community from a young age.

Throughout his struggle for his nation’s freedom, he lost many family members to brutal attacks, and ultimately, he himself was martyred in a similar attack while in Iran.

His sudden and unexpected loss has deeply saddened Muslims in the Arab and Islamic world, as well as advocates of democracy.

On behalf of the Sri Lankan Islamic scholars and Muslims, All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama extends its deepest condolences to his grieving family, the Palestinian people, the leadership of the freedom movement, and the international Muslim Ummah. We strongly condemn such brutal attacks.

We also welcome the condemnation of this attack by the Honorable President of Sri Lanka, the Leader of the Opposition, and several political party leaders.

May Allah grant him and his martyred bodyguard, Waseem Abu-Sha’fan, the highest ranks in paradise among the martyrs. May He accept their good deeds, forgive their shortcomings, and grant patience and comfort to their grieving families, the nation, and all their supporters.

We pray that Allah grants the Palestinian people peace, security, and freedom, fulfilling all their legitimate aspirations.
