The news of the demise of Shaikh Dr. Thaika Shuaib Alim (Rah) of Ramnatpuram, Tamil Nadu has deeply distressed us.
Shaikh Dr. Thaika Shuaib Alim (Rah) who was a prominent Religious Scholar, an author of several books, a researcher, a multi lingual expert and the Spiritual Head of the Thareeqathul Aroosiyyathul Qadhiriyya Sufi Order, was aged 90 years when he passed away in Kerala, India. Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajioon!
He has made a significant contribution in documenting the historical contribution of Tamil-speaking Muslims by publishing an 880-page research on ‘Arabic, Arwi and Persian in Serendib and Tamil Nadu – A study of the Contributions of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu to Arabic, Arwi, Persian and Urdu Languages, Literature and Education’ which was compiled over a period of 30 years.
It is noteworthy that Shaikh Thaika Shuaib Alim, a two-time winner of the ‘Indian National Award for Best Arab Scholar’, is also on the list of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world. He has also contributed to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) Muslim Service for more than three decades.
It is worthy of mention that Shaikh Thaika Shuaib Alim, who is the great grandson of Sayyid Muhammad, widely known as “Imam ul Aroos” or “Mappillai Lebbai Alim”and his ancestors have immensely contributed to the Religion of Islam and Muslims of Sri Lanka by acquiring the honor of establishing more than 300 Masjids, initiating one of the oldest Madarasa in our country, “Baari Arabic College” and authoring several Religious books in ‘Arabu Tamil’ for the benefit of the Tamil speaking community.

May Almighty Allah accept his good deeds, forgive any shortcomings, enjoin him with the righteous and grant him the Paradise of Jannathul Firdous, Aameen.
