GUIDANCE FROM ACJU WITH REGARD TO THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS -2024

All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) requests the Muslims of Sri Lanka to adhere to the following guidelines regarding the Presidential Elections to be held on 21.09.2024, Insha Allah.

It is well-known that ACJU is a religious and social guidance organization that has been actively involved in social and religious endeavors in the country for over 100 years. ACJU does not endorse or oppose any candidate or political party.

During this period, let us earnestly pray for the bright future of our motherland and the well-being of its citizens, and commit ourselves to good deeds that will attract Divine assistance.

In a democratic country, everyone has the right to contest elections, regardless of their party affiliation, and to support the candidate of their choice. As responsible citizens, we should exercise our right to vote thoughtfully and respectfully, ensuring that we uphold the values of democracy and civility during the electoral process.

We should refrain from all forms of criminal activities, whether in speech or action, especially during election periods. Spreading rumors, gossiping, fighting, and engaging in violent acts are detrimental behaviors that affect our Imaan and must be avoided.

Ulama (Religious scholars) should strictly avoid expressing support for or opposition to any candidate or political party on pulpit of Mosques (Mimbars) and should guide the public to follow the aforementioned guidelines.

Furthermore, Mosques should not be used for election campaigns or any related activities. It is crucial to remain calm and composed once the election is over. The Muslim community should always set a positive example by promoting unity and harmony.

As Muslims, we firmly believe that everything in the universe unfolds according to Divine Will and Plan. It is our responsibility to accept with patience and understanding that whoever wins the election does so by Divine decree.

ACJU appeals the Ulama, Masjid Trustees and especially the members of the ACJU District and Divisional branches to guide the general public to the above instructions.
