Allah has created relationships to beautify human life and instill meaningfulness. Relationships are the source of human life and friendship is one such important relationship. Friendship, fellowship, companionship are always closely bonded to our souls and traverses through all seasons of life from childhood to old age.
Acknowledging friendship is an aspect very close to Iman. Our faith is perfected when we love someone for the sake of Allah. That also becomes the reason for us to enter Heaven.
Hazrat Abu Huraira (RadhiyAllahu Anhu) reported that The Messenger of Allah (May Peace and Blessing be upon Him) observed: “You shall not enter Paradise so long as you do not affirm belief (in all those things which are the articles of faith) and you will not believe as long as you do not love one another. Should I not direct you to a thing which, if you do, it will foster love amongst you: (pay salutation to one another by saying) As-Salamu Alaikum. (Sahih Muslim)
And the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Allah will give shade, to seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but His. (Among them are) Two persons who love each other only for Allah’s sake and they meet and part in Allah’s cause only, (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Friendship has a positive and negative impact on our lives. The Prophet (ﷺ) exemplified a good friend to the likes of a musk merchant and an evil friend to a worker in an iron workshop (he would either burn your clothes or you shall have to smell its repugnant smell).
Therefore, it is important to choose good companions, love them for the sake of Allah, express our love to them, constantly be in their companionship and cooperate with them in good deeds.
It is significant to note that the International Friendship Day (July 30) declared by the UN has been introduced with the aim of creating friendship and integration among nations of race, religion, religion, culture.
So let’s conduct ourselves with friendly characteristics and pray that Almighty Allah bestows us with the companionship of good friends.
