Humanity is a basic characteristic that every human should possess. It is one of the religious values that is emphasized in Islam.
Islam is a noble religion with unique characteristics. Accordingly, ‘Insaaniyyah’ means ‘related to human’. When observing the divine guidelines revealed by Almighty Allah, it is evident that it considers the nature of humans, interests and weaknesses.
Islam sees humanity in man. It does not tend to define people based on language, color, race, nationality, different thoughts or ideologies, but simply considered all as humans. Almighty Allah states in the Holy Quran: “O mankind, We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into races and tribes, so that you may identify one another”. (Surah Hujurat, Verse 13)
And the Holy Quran also states: “And say to the people what is good” (Surah Baqarah, Verse 83) Therefore, it is a humane characteristic to express oneself with love and kindness and with gentle words.
A Muslims perceives a human based on this perspective. He sees humanity in man and shall not discriminate anyone based on caste, religion, language, nationality, color or status.
Religion emphasizes upholding humanity in relationships with fellow human beings. Humanity is one of the main characteristics that form the basis of relationships.
Islam advocates to treat not only Muslims but members of other faiths also, in a humanitarian and brotherly manner.
Throughout the history of Islam, there are many humanitarian examples. Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) who was sent as a Mercy to the entire world, was a humanitarian Messenger.
The beloved Prophet (ﷺ) has guided to conduct oneself with love and compassion not only with humans but also with other living creatures as well. It is a characteristic very close to Imaan. History has recorded that it also served as a source of salvation.
In order to encourage those involved in humanitarian efforts and to emphasize the importance humanitarianism, the United Nations Council has declared August 19 as the ‘International Humanitarian Day’.
We pray to Almighty Allah to bless all the individuals and organizations engaged in humanitarian efforts across the globe and to grant them good physical and mental health, to continue their noble efforts.
As bearers of the international humanitarian mission, may Almighty Allah bless us to conduct ourselves with humanity and humaneness and live as exemplary citizens of our country.
