Let us pray for those who are affected by the Coronavirus epidemic

29.01.2020 / 03.06.1441

Many people across the world including China have been contracted by the Coronavirus epidemic and receiving treatments, while a number of deaths also have been confirmed as a result of this frightening issue. The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, while expressing its deepest condolences to those families of the deceased, it also prays for those affected with a swift recovery.

The ACJU urges everyone to increasingly engage in rituals and supplications Islam has taught us, in order to evoke the mercy and blessings of Allah, during this time of dreadful tribulation that has befallen on these countries, and to ensure all of them recover totally and return back to normalcy.

Spreading false and unverified news on Social Media during these times, could lead to unwanted problems and instill unnecessary fear among the public. Hence it is advised to refrain from such acts.

Furthermore, we strongly urge the public to strictly adhere to the instructions provided by the relevant health authorities, and Islam has guided us to avoid visiting places where such an epidemic is prevalent.

Abdur Rahman Ibn Auf (Rali) reported that he heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying, “If you hear about it (an outbreak of plague) in a land, do not go to it; but if plague breaks out in a country where you are staying, do not run away from it.” (Buhari: 5729)

We must recite the supplication taught to us by The Messenger of Allah (Sal) during such calamities:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبَرَصِ، وَالْجُنُونِ، وَالْجُذَامِ، وَمِنْ سَيِّئِ الأَسْقَامِ

Meaning: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from leprosy, madness, elephantiasis, and evil diseases.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 1554)

May Allah safeguard us from all such calamities and disasters. Aameen!
