“وَيُـؤْثِرُوْنَ عَلٰٓى اَنْفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ ؕ وَمَنْ يُّوْقَ شُحَّ نَـفْسِهٖ فَاُولٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُوْنَ”ۚ ‏(سورة الحشر 09)

Almighty Allah mentions in the Holy Qur’an: “… and give preference (to them) over themselves, even though they are in poverty. -And those who are saved from the greed of their hearts are the successful.” (Surah 59, Verse 09)

It has been reported that due to adverse weather conditions rains since last June in Pakistan, nearly two-thirds of the country has been affected by floods. And it has also been reported that about 33 million people have been affected, more than 12,000 people have been severely injured, more than 1.6 million houses have been completely destroyed, more than 3 million acres of agricultural land, and more than 700,000 cattle have drowned, various infectious diseases have spread and hundreds of roads and bridges have been severely damaged.

Although we Sri Lankans, are also undergoing a severe economic crisis during this juncture, Islam teaches us to extend possible assistance to those affected and pray for them as well. There is no doubt that by helping one who is in distress, Almighty Allah shall relieve us from our difficulties.

“If anyone relieves a believer from one of the hardships of this worldly life, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection” (Sahih Muslim)

It was collectively decided during a discussion with the Masjid Federations and Muslim Trade Associations, that the Jumu’ah fund collections of the forthcoming two weeks, should be requested to be allocated for this cause.

Accordingly, ACJU kindly requests all to contribute possible financial assistance to the following disaster relief bank account of ACJU, within the following two weeks and requests the Masjid Trustees to consider this matter as well.

We wish to declare that the funds collected will be handed over to the High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka at the end of this month with the collaboration of Masjid Federations and Muslim Business Associations, whereas private companies may also contribute the aid collected by them.

May Almighty Allah accept all our good deeds and rewards us in both worlds abundantly! Aamean.
