Recently a news has been published in the media regarding a statement attributed to Brother Riyas Salley as quoted by him as, Ven. Wathurakumbure Dhammarathana Thero, during the meeting with the ACJU regarding the Mosque issue at Jailani in the Balangoda area, had been informed by the ACJU that ‘the mosque doesn’t belong to us’. The ACJU vehemently condemns and rejects this baseless allegation.
The ACJU is an asset of all Ulama and Muslims of this country. The primary objectives of ACJU are to preserve Islam and guide the Ulama and Muslims to live in accordance to the pure teachings of Islam. Thus, everyone should refrain from spreading false rumours about ACJU.
Ven. Wathurakumbure Dhammarathana Thero had visited the ACJU to discuss regarding the Jailani Masjid issue. As Masjid affairs are related to the Waqf Board, we had advised the Ven. Thero that it would be much better to inform the Waqf Board and discuss further with them. We do have written evidence pertaining to it as well.
Islam teaches to verify a news thoroughly, when one receives it.
“يٰۤاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْۤا اِنْ جَآءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ ۢ بِنَبَاٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوْۤا اَنْ تُصِيْبُوْا قَوْمًا ۢ بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوْا عَلٰى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نٰدِمِيْنَ”.
O you who believe, if a sinful person brings you a report, verify its correctness, lest you should harm a people out of ignorance, and then become remorseful on what you did. (Surah 49:6)
Accordingly, we urge those responsible for this issue, to rectify it immediately and to meet ACJU if any further clarifications are required.
