During the period in which Covid-19 was most prevalent, the number of people gathering at Masjids was limited and guidance was issued by ACJU to conduct Jumu’ah prayers at Thaqqiyas, Zaviyas and in other suitable premises.
However as the restrictions on gatherings have been relaxed and one of the conditions for Jumu’ah in the Shafi’e Madhab, is that Jumu’ah prayers should be conducted only at one location within a locality, unless in exceptional circumstances, the Masjid Trustees are requested to arrange the future Jumu’ah prayers in Masjids which had already conducted Jumu’ah, prior to the Covid-19 period, abiding by the stipulated health regulations.
In localities where Jumu’ah prayers are unable to be conducted in one particular premise according to the health guidelines, it is permissible to perform in an additional location.
However, as per the Scholars of Shafi’e Madhab, second Jumu’ah prayer which is conducted within a locality, disregarding the Religious teachings shall not be acceptable according to the Shari’ah.
Hence, we request the ACJU Divisional Branches to guide the Masjid Trustees of their respective regions.
We also request that matters relating to the administration of Masjids should be carried out in accordance to the guidance of the Waqf Board and the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs (DMRCA).
May Almighty Allah shower His Mercy and accept all of us, Aameen!
