Regarding the inhuman attack which occurred in Auckland, New Zealand

Ref No: ACJU/NGS/2021/190

04th of September 2021

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the attack which took place on the 3rd of September in Auckland, New Zealand. We are shocked and saddened to hear that he is of Sri Lankan origin and his inhumane act was driven by what is reported as an ISIS deviant extremist ideology.

We the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) and the Muslim civil organizations in Sri Lanka have issued a ‘Joint Declaration’ rejecting and condemning ISIS deviant extremist ideology in 2015. This ideology has hijacked the beautiful religion of Islam which promotes peace, love, compassion, justice, moderation and respect to all.

It is very unfortunate to note that many youngsters around the world have become prey to many forms of extremist deviant ideologies. It is imperative that much more efforts are necessary in order to protect and guide our younger generation.

We really appreciate the statement of the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern which states: “It was hateful, it was wrong, it was carried out by an individual, not a faith, ethnicity or culture. He alone carries the responsibility for these acts.” These are amazing leadership qualities which promotes love, justice and impartiality.

We also greatly appreciate the people of New Zealand for having displayed tolerance, compassion and communal harmony as stated in the Holy Quran, Chapter 41 Verse 34:

“The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend.)”

In today’s world it is a responsibility upon all of us have to work together to eradicate all forms of extremism by promoting peace, love, compassion, justice, moderation and respect to all.

We pray for the protection and safety of all people living around the world. May Almighty protect humanity from the acts of extremists and all forms of evils and may He bless this world with lasting peace and prosperity.
