Answer: The Holy Qur’an is the sacred scripture revealed by Allah, the Almighty to guide humanity towards the Straight Path.

It is the duty of us Humans, to honor, protect and act upon its teachings.

So, Islam guides us on how we should act in instances the Quran becomes unusable or soiled.

As we know that the disater which affected our country in the past weeks have rendered many copies of the Quran’s in masājid and makātib wet and unusable.

Therefore, the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama requests that the following guidelines be observed when dealing with such copies of the Quran:

1.Copies which are in usable state:
These Copies of the Quran should be cleaned and prepared for reuse. seeking expert advice and using appropriate cleaning methods – such as placing them in a suitable freezer – is recommended.

2.Copies which are in an unusable state:

– Dissolving the script:
Copies that are completely unusable may be washed with clean water to the extent that  the ink dissolves completely. Thereafter this water must be poured in a clean place.

– Burning and burying:
These copies can be gathered and burnt in a clean place. If dampness of the copies cause a hindrance to burn, appropriate chemical substances may be used in order to assist. Thereafter the ashes should then be buried in a clean location.

– Burying:
These Copies can also be disposed by placing it in a suitable box and then burying it in a clean place, where  people wont be walking usually.

Those who have the facilities to follow the any of the above methods individually can do so, and those  unable to handle it individually are advised to gather and undertake this in an organized manner and obtain the advice of their respective ACJU branch.
