A delegation led by the Chairperson of the National Child Protection Authority visited the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama on 10 August 2026 and held a meeting with members of its Executive Committee.
The meeting was held to introduce the proposed Legal Reforms on Corporal Punishment to enhance child protection aimed at addressing and preventing the physical and psychological abuse of children.
During the meeting, the visiting delegation presented data on incidents of violence and crimes against children reported across the country. They emphasized the importance of all relevant stakeholders working together with mutual understanding and cooperation to effectively prevent and address such incidents.
Speaking on the occasion, the President of the ACJU- Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe, highlighted the importance of addressing this matter. He also explained the importance accorded to children in Islam, as well as their status, dignity and rights, citing evidence from the Holy Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
He further introduced the Fatwa Division of the ACJU and stated that it provides Islamic guidance and clarification on matters relating to women and children.
Representing the National Child Protection Authority at the meeting were its Chairman, Preethi Inoka Ranasinghe, Head of the Legal Division, Attorney-at-Law Preethika Sakalasuriya, and Cyber Division Officer, Mifraj Ahmad.
Representing the ACJU were the President, Treasurer, Vice President, Deputy General Secretary, members of the Executive Committee, Chief Executive Officer, General Manager, and members of the ACJU staff.
