The 11th International Conference, jointly organized by Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta and the General Secretariat of the International Fatwa Institutions, commenced on 2 September 2026 in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, with the participation of Muftis, Islamic scholars, ministers, and religious leaders from approximately 80 countries.
Family Challenges Amid Global Transformations:
Held under the theme “Family Challenges Amid Global Transformations,” the conference extensively examined a range of contemporary challenges, including digital transformation, artificial intelligence, individualism, family cohesion, child-rearing, and the preservation of Islamic identity.
Meeting with Egypt’s Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments:
Subsequently, the President of the ACJU, Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe, and its Asst. Treasurer, Ash-Shaikh Dr. A.A. Ahmad Azwer, met with Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Egypt’s Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, and held discussions on matters of mutual importance.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on several important matters, including the contemporary religious and social situation in Sri Lanka, the challenges faced by Muslim families in Sri Lanka, and the role of religious institutions in addressing these challenges.
Mufti Rizwe Delivers a Research Presentation at the International Seminar:
Following the conference, Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe delivered research presentations at seminars addressing various aspects of contemporary family challenges. These included cooperation between Fatwa institutions, psychological guidance institutions, and personal law courts in the context of digital transformation and the challenges faced by families. The presentations were delivered in the presence of Sheikh Hashem Dawood, Secretary of the Egyptian Fatwa Centre.
Sri Lankan students pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral studies in Egypt also participated in these academic seminars.
Family Counselling Based on the Qur’an and Sunnah:
In his presentation, Mufti Rizwe highlighted the following key areas:
1. The importance of family counselling based on the Qur’an and Sunnah.
2. The psychological and social challenges faced by contemporary families.
He emphasized the need to address family-related problems appropriately at their early stages, and highlighted the importance of religious guidance in fostering mutual understanding, patience, respect, and a sense of responsibility among family members.
Coordinated Efforts for Family Well-being:
In his presentation, Mufti Rizwe also emphasized the need for religious scholars, Fatwa institutions, psychological professionals, and relevant social organizations to work together in a coordinated manner to promote family well-being and social harmony in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s Voice on the International Stage:
At these academic seminars, attended by religious scholars, representatives of Fatwa institutions, ministers, and experts from various countries, the views and experiences shared by Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe concerning Sri Lanka’s contemporary religious, family, and social circumstances received significant attention.
The representation of the ACJU at this important international conference, attended by representatives from 80 countries, together with Mufti Rizwe’s research presentation, provided a valuable opportunity to highlight the circumstances of the Sri Lankan Muslim community and the challenges faced by families at the international level.
