Hon. Dr. Sheikh Ibrahim El Shafie, Deputy Chairman of the Darulfatwa Islamic High Council of Australia, visited the Head Office of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) on 08 September 2026.
During the visit, Hon. Dr. Sheikh Ibrahim El Shafie shared his valuable experiences, observations, and thoughts on a range of matters concerning the Muslim community, with particular emphasis on the importance of peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, and harmonious relations among communities, especially in countries where Muslims constitute a minority.
Welcoming the distinguished guest, Ash-Shaikh Arkam Nooramith, General Secretary of ACJU, introduced the ACJU and provided an overview of its services, highlighting the organisation’s longstanding efforts to serve the Muslim community and contribute positively to the wider society.
Mufti M.M. Rizwe, President of the ACJU, briefed the delegation on the various initiatives undertaken by the ACJU to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen understanding and harmony among Sri Lanka’s diverse communities.
He also highlighted the ACJU’s continued efforts to prevent and mitigate extremism through constructive dialogue, religious guidance, community awareness programmes and the publication and distribution of informative booklets. These initiatives are aimed at promoting a balanced understanding of Islam, countering misconceptions, and encouraging responsible engagement and peaceful relations among communities.
The discussion also provided an opportunity to exchange views and experiences on the role of religious scholars and Islamic institutions in promoting peace, social harmony, responsible citizenship, and constructive engagement with wider society.
