Astronomy reports have stated that a ‘Total Lunar Eclipse’ shall occur on Monday, 16th of May 2022. This shall be the first lunar eclipse to occur in the year 2022. Furthermore, it is stated that the lunar eclipse will not be visible to Sri Lanka.
It is Sunnah to perform the eclipse prayer when the moon or sun gets covered fully or partially. As the said Eclipse shall not be visible to our country, it is not a Sunnah to perform the Eclipse prayer.
Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said: “The sun and the moon are two signs of Allah; they are not eclipsed on account of anyone’s death or on account of anyone’s birth. So when you see them, glorify and supplicate Allah, observe prayer, give alms.” (Saheeh Bukhari-1044)
