2015.05.22.

The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU), together with 24 other Muslim community and social welfare organisations, extended humanitarian assistance to the people of Nepal following the devastating earthquake that struck the country in April 2015.

In response to the immense suffering and destruction caused by the disaster, the participating organisations came together to mobilise financial contributions and essential relief items for the affected people of Nepal.

A total of Rs. 2.6 million in cash, together with essential relief materials, was collected through this collective humanitarian initiative.
The cash donation was formally handed over at the Embassy of Nepal in Colombo by the President of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe, to the Acting Ambassador of Nepal to Sri Lanka, Mrs. Dhanakumari Joshi.

The relief items collected as part of the initiative were also handed over to the relevant authorities for onward transportation to Nepal.

The ACJU appreciates the valuable cooperation and solidarity demonstrated by the participating organisations and members of the Muslim community in extending assistance to the people of Nepal during this difficult period.

The Acting Ambassador of Nepal expressed her sincere appreciation for the assistance extended by the Sri Lankan Muslim community. She acknowledged that the gesture demonstrated the spirit of brotherhood and humanitarian solidarity transcending ethnic and communal differences.

The ACJU reiterates that humanitarian responsibility transcends all boundaries of race, religion, ethnicity and nationality. In times of disaster and human suffering, it is the collective responsibility of humanity to stand together and extend assistance to those in need.

The ACJU expresses its solidarity with the people of Nepal and prays for the swift recovery and reconstruction of the country, as well as for relief and comfort for all those affected by the disaster.
