Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
The prayer timetable currently in practice in our country, including the times for sunrise, sunset, and all prayers, was initially prepared by scholars of the past. Subsequently, it was introduced and implemented based on the timetable prepared by Al-Aalim Abdul Samad (Rahimahullah), and has been in practice to this day.
However, due to geographical changes, expansion of pathways, and the increase in high-rise buildings, it has been observed that the sun is still visible at the time of the Adhan of Maghrib, on certain days.
The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, in collaboration with Hassaniyya Arabic College, has been working towards resolving the issue and making a public announcement. The final stages of the announcement are currently underway.
Therefore, we kindly request all those residing in Colombo and its suburbs (Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara districts) to add one minute to the time indicated in the calendar for the Adhan of Maghrib and call the Adhan at the amended time, to break the fast.
