A government delegation led by the Hon. Harshana Nanayakkara, Minister of Justice and National Integration, visited the head office of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) on 09 August 2026 and held a special meeting with members of the ACJU Executive Committee.
The delegation included the Hon. Dr. Rizvie Salih, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, and the Hon. Ash-Shaikh Muneer Mulaffer, Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs, among other government representatives.
The meeting primarily focused on briefing the ACJU on the new reforms currently being implemented in the areas of judicial reform and prison administration. It also provided an opportunity for both parties to engage in constructive dialogue on a range of matters concerning religious affairs and issues affecting the Muslim community.
Among the key matters discussed were proposed amendments to the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act, matters relating to the Quazi Court system, the situation of individuals arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks, issues concerning closed mosques, the importation of religious books and translated religious literature, the cremation of Muslim Janazas during the COVID-19 pandemic, and matters relating to government Muslim schools.
The ACJU representatives highlighted the concerns of the Muslim community regarding these matters and discussed the need for appropriate and practical solutions through continued engagement with the relevant authorities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the ACJU presented the Hon. Harshana Nanayakkara, Minister of Justice and National Integration, with several significant publications issued by the ACJU, including the ACJU’s Sinhala interpretation of the Holy Qur’an.
The meeting was attended by the President of the ACJU- Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe, General Secretary- Ash-Shaikh M. Arkam Nooramith, Vice President- Ash-Shaikh Umardeen, Assistant General Secretary- Ash-Shaikh M.S.M. Thasim, and Executive Committee Members, Ash-Shaikh S.L. Naufar, Ash-Shaikh Rifah Hasan, and Ash-Shaikh A.H.M. Akram.
