Assalamu Alaikkum Warahmathullahi Wabarakathuhu
Due to the heavy rains, strong winds, landslide risks, and flooding that have affected many parts of our country over the past few days, several areas have been severely impacted. Many families have suffered damages and are currently taking shelter in temporary public facilities.
In such emergency and exceptional circumstances, Islam provides clear guidance on how Muslims should fulfill their religious obligations.
Guidance on the Jumu‘ah Prayer
Islamic scholars have clearly stated that when there is extremely heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, muddy or slippery roads, or any condition that makes travelling to the masjid difficult or dangerous, the obligation to attend the Jumu‘ah prayer is lifted.
Therefore, in these circumstances, for those who find it difficult to reach the masjid, the obligation of attending Jumu‘ah is removed. They are requested to perform the Zuhr prayer in their places.
Guidance Regarding the Adhān
In areas experiencing severe disruption and where travelling to the masjid is difficult or risky, it is in accordance with the practice of the Prophet ﷺ for the mu’adhdhin to announce after the adhān:
“Sallū fī rihālikum – Pray in your dwellings.”
Therefore, we kindly request the mu’adhdhins to make this announcement either after completing the adhān or after saying “Hayya ‘alaṣ-Ṣalāh,” depending on the situation and necessity.
We also earnestly request everyone to strictly follow the instructions issued by the security and disaster management authorities when it comes to travelling to the masjid or stepping outdoors during this time.
May Allah Ta‘ālā protect our country and its people from all forms of harm. Āmīn.
