Following the visit of the President of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU), Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe, to Italy, a cordial meeting took place with the Consul General of the Sri Lankan Consulate in Italy, Hon. Dilani Weerakoon, on 17th February 2025 at her office in Milan.
Organized by the Sri Lankan Muslim Community (SLMC) in Italy, the meeting was also attended by its President, Brother Riyas Zawahir, Secretary, Brother Naleer Niyas, and Vice President, Ramzan Lanthra.
During the meeting, Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe discussed various matters with the Consul General and presented her with a Sinhala translation of the Qur’an published by the ACJU in 2019. She accepted the gift with great appreciation, displaying both interest and respect. The ACJU President also explained the compilation process and the content of the translation.
Furthermore, Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe proudly recalled the ACJU’s centenary celebration in 2023 and elaborated on the significant initiatives undertaken since then. These include fostering coexistence among Sri Lankans both locally and abroad and promoting interfaith understanding.
In addition, the ACJU President provided insights into the organization’s history and founding objectives. He recommended several books to the Consul General, encouraging her to read them and display them in her library.
He also inquired about the Consul General’s relationships with envoys of other Muslim countries. Moreover, he discussed the professional achievements and progress of Sri Lankans in Italy, urging the Consul General to support and facilitate opportunities for their professional development.
