It is well known that the ACJU has always been committed to protecting the religious and social rights and welfare of the Muslim community in Sri Lanka throughout its history.

In this regard, we have cooperated with various government-appointed Committees from time to time concerning reforms to the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act. The ACJU has made numerous recommendations, advocating for necessary changes that do not contradict Islamic principles, while also proposing alternative solutions for matters that may conflict with religious guidelines.

We therefore strongly condemn the recent statement made by former Minister Ali Sabry during a media interview, in which he claimed that the ACJU is an obstacle to the reform of the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act. Such statements are baseless and without foundation.

A comprehensive statement outlining the official position of the ACJU on this matter will be released to the public soon.
