Eid ul-Adha, one of the two major festivals of Islam, is being celebrated by over 2 billion Muslims around the world. We, the Muslims of Sri Lanka, are also celebrating this blessed day in a special manner. Alhamdulillah!

On behalf of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, we extend our heartfelt Eid ul-Adha greetings to all Muslims who are celebrating this noble festival.

On this blessed day, over 1.6 million Muslims from various parts of the world have gathered in Mina and Makkah to complete their sacred Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam. Among them are 3,500 pilgrims from Sri Lanka who have undertaken this spiritual journey as our country’s representatives.

It was during the only Hajj he performed in his lifetime that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gathered over one hundred thousand of his companions and delivered the historic sermon on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, known as the Farewell Sermon (‘Hajjathul Wada’). This address serves as a complete declaration of human rights, equality, brotherhood, and justice, and it continues to emphasize these values even today. These are the days for us to remember and reflect on that profound message.

The days of Hajj reminds us of the exemplary life of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), who fully submitted to the commands of Allah and dedicated every aspect of his life for the sake of his Creator. The Holy Qur’an reminds us of the patience, sacrifices, and the divine honors granted to Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in around 63 places across 25 chapters, highlighting his unwavering commitment to his Lord.

Let us embody the key lessons taught by this festival of sacrifice: complete submission to Allah’s commands, dedication, sacrifice, patience, trust in Allah, raising righteous children, and obedience to parents. Let us practice these values in our lives, nurture them within our families, and strive for success both in this world and the Hereafter.

Furthermore, the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama earnestly prays that peace and unity may prevail across the globe, especially in our country and in the region of Gaza, Palestine, and that the hardships faced by suffering communities be eased, with the help of the Almighty Allah.
