Guidance of the ACJU Regarding the Performance of Udhiyyah (Qurbani) this Year

ACJU/NGS/2026/63
2026.05.13 (1447.11.25)

According to Circular No. HA/1/2/වෙසක්/2026 dated 07.05.2026 issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, it has been confirmed that there is no restriction on performing Udhiyyah on any of the days permitted by Islamic teachings, except on the 30th and 31st of May.

Accordingly, we request the Muslim community of this country to continue fulfilling this religious obligation, which has been observed for generations, with the same dignity and reverence. We also wish to inform that the religious guidelines issued by the ACJU in this regard should be adhered to, and that further guidance will be communicated at the appropriate time.

In this regard, the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah is expected on the forthcoming 17th. If the crescent moon is sighted on that day, the ACJU advises that Udhiyyah should be performed only on the forthcoming 27th, 28th, and 29th, which correspond to the days of Eid al-Adha.

If the crescent moon is not sighted on the 17th, then the ACJU advises that Udhiyyah should be performed only on the 28th and 29th, corresponding to the days of Eid al-Adha.

The ACJU kindly requests the Muslim community to carry out this important act of worship emphasized by Islam with patience, social consciousness, and a sense of responsibility.
