‘Verily to Allah we belong and to Him is our return’ – إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ
We the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, express our deepest condolences on the demise of Professor Rezvi Sheriff, a highly respected physician whose contributions to medicine, academia, and healthcare in Sri Lanka were truly invaluable.
A pioneer in the fields of nephrology and transplantation, Professor Sheriff played a defining role in advancing kidney care services in the country. He was instrumental in performing Sri Lanka’s first-ever kidney transplant in 1985 and is widely regarded by the medical community as the “Father of Nephrology” in Sri Lanka.
He served with distinction as Senior Professor of Medicine at the University of Colombo and at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), where he mentored and inspired generations of medical professionals.
He was an active member of several community welfare initiatives, always demonstrating deep care and concern for others. His legacy is one of love, compassion, and service. He was ever ready to step forward in times of crisis to support and uplift the community.
He also served as a founding member of the Halal Accreditation Council, reflecting his commitment to both professional excellence and community values.
With profound sadness, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, students, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he healed and the enduring impact he made on the field of medicine.
May Allah accept all his good deeds, purify his soul, and make his life in the Hereafter better than this world, may He grant his family peace and immense reward for their beautiful patience and unite them in Jannathul Firdous.
أللهم لا تحرمنا أجره ولا تفتنا بعده واغفر لنا وله
