Ramadan and Health

ACJU/NGS/2021/044

08th April 2021 / 25th Sha’baan 1442

Islam has given great emphasis to human life and physical  health. In relation to fasting, the Prophet Muhammed (Sal) has said: “Fast, and you will be healthy”.

Health-related guidelines to be followed during the month of Ramadan:

  1. Adhering to healthy eating habits during Iftar and Sahar.
  2. Observing all the health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health when engaging in acts of worship in congregation during the month of Ramadan, since the impact of the covid-19 virus is persistent.
  3. Compliance with healthy sleeping habits during the month of Ramadan.
  4. Taking care of the health of children, if they have formed the habit of observing fasts along with the elders in the house.
  5. Islam offers some concessions in relation to fasting to pregnant women as well as lactating mothers. These can be viewed via the link given below:

  1. The religion provides permission to elders who do not have the strength to observe fasts and to terminally-ill patients to refrain from fasting. Along those lines, for each of the missed fasts, they are required to give one Mudd of rice as Fidya. One Mudd is approximately equivalent to 600 grams.

May the Almighty Allah bless and enable us to observe the fasts of Ramadan in a healthy and enthusiastic manner and may He protect the people of our nation and the world against deadly diseases, Aameen.
