On this blessed day, as more than two billion Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, we, the Muslims of Sri Lanka with a history spanning over a thousand years, are also fortunate to celebrate this sacred occasion by the grace of Allah. Alhamdulillah.
The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama is pleased to extend its heartfelt Eid-ul-Adha greetings and best wishes to Muslims across the world who are celebrating this Hajj festival.
To fulfil Hajj, one of the five fundamental pillars of Islam, more than 1.6 million Muslims from various countries have gathered in the sacred lands of Makkah, Mina, and Arafah. Among them are approximately 3,500 pilgrims from Sri Lanka who have travelled to perform Hajj this year.
The Arafah Sermon delivered by our beloved Prophet Muhammad SallAllahuAlaihiWaSallam (peace be upon him) during the Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjatul Wada’) stands as an eternal humanitarian declaration that emphasizes global peace, human equality, justice, human rights, and brotherhood.
In that sermon, profound guidance was given regarding the sanctity and dignity of human life, the rights of women, the need to refrain from injustice and terrorism, economic justice, and social harmony.
The Holy Qur’an reminds us, in 63 verses across 25 chapters, about the patience displayed by Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihissalaam) during the trials he faced, his life of sacrifice, his unwavering faith, and his complete submission to the commands of Allah.
The elevated status and honour granted to him by Allah for his steadfast faith and sacrificial life continue to remain an everlasting example for humanity.
This festival of sacrifice teaches us invaluable lessons such as complete submission to the commands of Allah, love and devotion towards Him, sacrifice, patience, trust in Allah (Tawakkul), exemplary parenting, and obedience to parents. Let us strive to implement these noble qualities in our own lives. May Allah grant us the ability to nurture these values within our families and communities and thereby attain success in both this world and the Hereafter.
We further pray that, through the heartfelt supplications of the millions of pilgrims gathered in the sacred lands today, Allah alleviates the suffering caused by wars, human rights violations, economic hardships, and all forms of oppression and injustice affecting communities across the world.
While expressing gratitude to Allah for the peace prevailing in our beloved Sri Lanka, we further pray that the hardships faced by people due to economic difficulties and livelihood challenges may come to an end, and that our nation may prosper and grow into a strong and flourishing country.
May Allah also bless this nation so that the noble values of humanity, harmony, peaceful coexistence, and unity continue to prevail among all communities in Sri Lanka.
